Just Beachy

Thanksgiving with my family (Mum & Dad and 3 nevvy's) at the beach was really nice...had internet access but for some reason it crashed me every time i tried to get in world. so i watched Torchwood..(see below) driving back home later this morning hoping to avoid the traffic.
i do love our atlantic ocean...there's nothing like waking up in the morning to crashing waves.

Last night we went to the Ocean City Festival of Lights where you ride around on a boardwalk trolly and see the light displays....moving trolly + lights gave me some bad pics but also some interesting ones. the last one has a Pirate Ship!!!

there's something about the ocean that just calls to me...we've has had a place here since i was a teenager...here i am at 14 with my first BF who i met at a teen pool party [grimaces at the 80's side braid] i make no explanations for his snoopy jogging t-shirt. [grins] but he was hot.

Now my parents come down just about every weekend...i love the beach in all weather...
sunrise in the summer whilst reading non-stop the last Harry Potter

or the time that it snowed....it was just gorgeous!

but like woods....the water...the beach....resonates with me...renews my soul and just makes me just really happy and centered in my world.

Torchwood: Stopwatch Porn with a Welsh Accent

"Separate from the government, outside the police, beyond the United Nations, Torchwood sets its own rules. Led by the enigmatic, ever watchful Captain Jack Harkness, the Torchwood team delves into the unknown and fights the impossible. Everyone who works for Torchwood is young. Some say that’s because it’s a new science. Others say it’s because they die young."

Torchwood rocks! i just finished a mini-marathon of season one...having started watching tuesday night...and when my parents went to bed early over the hols (how can they go to sleep at 8:30!??) i was turned onto Torchwood by the dear good Dr. Obolensky who said it was great and man was he right! Torchwood is basically slash fic made into a TV series but one that IMHO is very diverting..in spite of, and maybe beacuse of it's slash sex beginnings.

Stopwatch Porn

i mean... there is this sexually charged one scene with Ianto and Dr. Jack that is so hot and also at the same time totally incomprehensible!

Ianto: If you're interested, I've still got that stopwatch.
Jack: So?
Ianto: Well, think about it; Lots of things you can do with a stopwatch.
Jack: Oh yeah! I can think of a few...
Ianto: There's quite a list.
Jack: I'll send the others home early. See you in my office in, 10?
Ianto: That's 10 minutes [sets stopwatch] and counting.

OMFG! Stopwatch porn!!! stopwatchporn! my new fettish! how can you not looooove that!???

"That is so Welsh. I show you something fantastic - and you find fault."

i don't want to give it away for those who haven't seen them but let's just say... this dark, moody series set in Cardiff Wales, produced by BBC Wales and filled to the brim with those lovely welsh accents... is avail on DVD and on the On Demand's BBC America channel is so good i became speedily hooked. It's done by the Brits and they bring their sensibilities to the table. It's tone, while somewhat reminiscent of the X-FILES, also does remind me a bit of DOCTOR WHO, but that one's to be expected as these two shows are closely linked. In fact, the word "Torchwood" is an anagram of Doctor Who and was a security code used by the crew of that series to foil television piracy.

Sex, violence, bad language, adult situations, and Welsh?

I am So there..and soooo good!
ps. check your local library if you dont' want to pony up the $54.99 on Amazon...they may just have it! (mine did but i wanted to KEEP them so off to Best Buy i went!)
i know i'll watch these over again....some of them are really creepy! like the cannibal one....and they often don't have the typical or expected "happy ending"
often time i was like as the good Dr. would say "Dwah!?" with surprise on how they wrapped up an episode...but all are highly watchable, addictive and good!

And now Capt. Jack visits Dr. Who!

I so can't wait to watch Season 2~!!!

UPDATE: this is for Miss Ceejay Writer...a Capt. Jack Action Figure from Amazon UK!!!!

Tiny Capt. Red: It's Good to be Small.....

so i never considered myself a tiny or a furry...just not me. i've been RP-ing for 14 years now...started back in the IRC, Mudds, WBS time...so when my friend Reghan (of Hatpins) suggested i try a tiny Avi i was skeptical....but she is so darn cute in hers! and there are some sims (and shops!) you can only visit as a tiny....so i tried it. and it was fun! of course i had to find a tiny pirate costume...sheah...but all in all i found hopping around as a tiny red fox to be a hoot! what is so cool is that dear Reghan (and she is dear and talented!!!!) has designed clothes for tiny Avi's .....and they are soooo cute! she threw a bunch at me..and the mourning hat (of course any Avi i have has to be a widow!)... fits both tiny and full size Avi's

I'm in Love! With an Ugly One-Eyed Furry

not so pretty....large furry pup named Balor!

....one eyed like the Irish Balor of the Evil Eye who was a king of the Fomorians, a race of giants...this dog is beautifully ugly....one of the designer's first and under 30 prims....

and reminds me of a book beloved in my teens called The Cliffs at Night where an Irish wolfound named Balor and an albatross played a big part.....my celtic soul rejoices in this small pixel pet! he does tricks, he learns things he has build in AI.. i swear i wish i had one in RL!

and though i lost him for a while today and was shouting like a fishwife up and down Wheatstone ....i do adore him! oh and thanks to Mr. Wiggy and Mr. Rip for being so kind as to helping me try and find him...note to self...set him to stay in my parcel....otherwise it seems he does like to roam! i've had Zooby pets...dear Sir Gear Pup the yellow lab pair i have are sweet but umm a bit dumb...but Balor is SMART! he even fetches a ball and sniffs any rum bottles i put down...and if you visit and he sees you...he says hi! and you can pet him!!
...((click and choose pet))

and there's a Newfoundland that i've got my eye on, too! Newfoundland being a place that's also dear to my heart....but at $1800L these pets are not cheap...but with the fun and the pixel love they provide i think it's quite reasonable.....here's the link to the Virtual Kennel Club with the owner's manual and the SLurls!

to see all of the pictures i have thus far of dear Balor please go HERE
Feel Free to Leave me a Comment....or one for Balor!

Google Unfair to Pirates! Add a Pirate Theme to Gmail!

To: Google

ARRR! We, the Pirates of the Internets, assert that:

1. Pirates are vastly superior to Ninjas in all ways;
2. Every sea-dog worth his or her salt knows this obvious fact;
3. Yet Google has added a stylin' GMail theme for those worthless Ninjas! Therefore
4. Google is clearly in the pay of the Ninja landlubbers, and thus contemptible, and therefore
5. Google must walk the plank.

Google's only hope of avoiding Davy Jones' Locker: add a pirate theme to GMail!

As we pirates find Google quite useful for locating sources of rum, we would hate to force Google to walk the plank. The Internet Tubes don't work so well when they be full o' salt water. But if ye force us to it, it'll be the briny deep for ye.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Avas ye, matey's! all scurvy rogues should sign the petition!~

Airship Pirate Flags & Skeleton Keys

Steampunk Airship Pirate Flag by ~tashi-yoshima on deviantART
i was inspired by our new Babbage resident Timotheos Vaher and a photo he was sharing on the Ning...and being the intrepid librarian and researcher that i am (when not shopping or planning a raid) i found the artist who designed it so i could give proper credit & praise
........behold ~tashi-yoshima

now i particularly like the gear and the "skeleton keys" being an amusing stand in for crossed bones.... i have always been fascinated by old large intricate keys.....or wee small keys...

found on Etsy....another addictive shopping pitfall

Sherlock Holmes Pub: London

i like pubs. i like pubs, a lot. i like stout, lager, ale, cider, and the occasional fine Chliean cabernet. one of the pubs that caught my eye in London was the Sherlock Holmes pub
Mr. Holmes...Dr. Watson....this is for you!

is there anything better than a nice pub? a warm, open fire...a booth, maybe a game of darts? (open cricket, no points).... and lots of ale and laughter?

i took this one after a few ales....it didn't *look* blurry at the time!

in my bed i am a starfish

as odd as this sounds i have written prose in adoration of my bed.
i adore it. here are examples of those tributes....again, i did say odd.

in my bed i am a starfish
spreading out....
floating on my own
feather downy sea
arms flung wide
legs sprawled
body
wriggling into
the flannel goodness
and puffy down 5" mattress
fluffy
enveloping
nesting
wide
open
restful
covered by a down comforter
light, fluffy, and warm
my bed is princess and the pea style
taller than most....
i have to hop to
get into it
3 layers
but once i'm there...
it's soooo good

---------
tonight
i will sink deeply
into 5" of a new down mattress
with a fill power of 500
the cover has a thread count of 300
and sooo fluffy and high
placed on top of my other
feather mattress it now is
about 7" thick....
and my bed now comes up to my
waist...i'll have to jump
into it tonight....then
sink...and feel it fluff
about me....
a new down comforter covering me
(it was a set..the down mattress
with down comforter!) of me
will surround me in
feathery
goodness...
a veritable bower
floating
like cloud

mmmmmm sweet dreams

Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies with Maple Glaze

Meat + Sweet = Divine
or....Bacon makes EVERYthing Better!

i really wish i could claim to have created this....but though i did create the eyelash curler, the doorstop, the cable knit and argyle patern*, i did NOT create this cookie. but i LOVE it!
i have made them..and given them to skeptical people only to have them go into orgiastic writhings of sublime pleasure...then DEMAND the recipe...
go ahead Ceejay dear...loathe me! LOL

Bacon chocolate chip cookies-
(this is for a FULL batch)

3/4 cup butter(It has been suggested that using 1 full cup of butter works best due to cookie dough dryness)
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon hazelnut (or almond) extract

*Edit- It has been suggested that the almond flavouring may be overpowering to the flavour of the cookie, feel free to add this ingredient to taste*
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg (It has been suggested that using 2 eggs works best due to cookie dough dryness)
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups bacon bits (if preferred, you can separate the dough into two parts and only make half of the dough into bacon cookies, in which case you’ll only want to use 1 cup bacon bits)

*An important note- Be sure to use real bacon bits, not Bacos *See large print at the bottom of this post*

Also, you can make your own bacon bits, just make sure you pat down the bacon chunks with paper towels to remove as much extra bacon grease as possible. *Edit* one of my readers made their own bacon bits and found out that apparently it takes about 2lbs of bacon to make 2 cups of bacon bits, just for future reference.

Directions-

preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

Beat together the butter, sugars, flavouring and eggs until creamy. In another bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir together. Dough will be slightly soft. If you want a cakier cookie, add another half cup of flour. Add in chocolate chips and bacon bits. Stir until well integrated. Place dough on a sheet of waxed paper and refrigerate at least an hour. Remove dough from fridge, pinch off 1 1/2 inch pieces of dough and roll into balls. Set dough balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten dough balls slightly with your fingers in the center.

Bake cookies for about 10 minutes, or until the dough starts to turn golden brown. Allow cookies to cool on a cooling rack while you ready the glaze.

Maple cinnamon glaze-

2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon maple extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon *edit- it has been suggested that 1 teaspoon may be a bit much, so go ahead and add to taste*
enough water to make a thick glaze (I used about 3 tablespoons)

Mix all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. If lumpy, use a whisk.

Spread a small amount of the glaze on the top of each cookie and top with a small piece of crisp cooked bacon.

Cthulhu and the Dark Victorians

i've blogged about Cthulhu before and i will again i am sure as i am a bit of a Lovecraft fan...
and becuse of that sometimes i save things that amuse me.....like discussions about the Dark Victorians, Absinthe, and Cthulhu........Skusting Dagger chimes in at the end. this snippet was on ISC last 27th of February ...as always my keyboarding skills are lacking. a published author, mr. sapwood is a dear friend now, though not much in world.. i have several of his books and i do miss his treacle mine.

[18:18] Gilbert Sapwood: hello all.. would anyone happen to have a little model cthulhu? I'll trade you a Hobo-made complete works of HP Lovecraft for it!
[18:19] Nicholas Murdock: One does not trade for Cthulhus. It finds you ;)
[18:19] Meyru Hilra: I was waiting for someone to point that out. *grins*
[18:19] Redgrrl Llewellyn: it's prolly there now....look behind you~
[18:19] Musgrave Mondegreen: I think that there is a shop in Steam Sky City that might have one
[18:19] Musgrave Mondegreen: Look for the giant Easter Island Moa
[18:20] Gilbert Sapwood: perfect, thanks, I'll look
[18:20] Marcus Tairov: Aye there is. Just look for the huge Easter Island statue..
[18:20] Gorthaur Ultsch: make sure that you cut all the trees down first
[18:20] Malone Sands: Martini Discovolante has a wonderful Lolita Cthulhus doll ... it is in my picks under her name. Contact her if you are interested. I am keeping mine ... ;=)
[18:20] Marcus Tairov: And make certain to feed the great unnamed one before you pick him up...less....something happens
[18:21] Meyru Hilra: *nods sagely* Someone will be along shortly to do a sanity check just in case.
[18:21] Gilbert Sapwood: I might have known Ms D would have something....
[18:21] Gorthaur Ultsch: she always does . . .
[18:22] Redgrrl Llewellyn: is there a place where DV congregates? ((sorry new to the DV group)) but not to Cthulhu
[18:23] Marcus Tairov: I haven't been to any AA meetings or DV meetings yet...
[18:23] Meyru Hilra: We should have a social event.
[18:23] Marcus Tairov: Something tells me a dark seedy bar with some absinth and dark poetry readings seems so cliche'.
[18:23] Gilbert Sapwood: yes we should, it has been ages.
[18:24] Redgrrl Llewellyn: i have asinthe...and also ennui
[18:24] Gorthaur Ultsch: haven't we been shunned by the Victorians?
[18:24] Gilbert Sapwood: we have??
[18:24] Meyru Hilra: I have a fabulous black dress and a jaded attitude. *tries not to grin*
[18:24] Redgrrl Llewellyn: absinthe...but my OED is not at hand, obvously
[18:24] Nicholas Murdock: There's a good selection of dark Victorian types aligned with the Winterfell sims.
[18:25] Nicholas Murdock: There's even a sim called Winterfell Absinthe :) Winterfell Laudenum has just been added too.
[18:25] Gorthaur Ultsch: I prefer my laudenum in the heat of summer . . .
[18:25] Gilbert Sapwood: Winterfell Opiate is next, and Winterfell Rum and Raisin.
[18:25] Redgrrl Llewellyn: cheers, Nicholas...Gil, let's not forget Winterfell Rumpleminz
[18:25] Marcus Tairov: And whether they like it or not, you have a lot of dark victorians in Caledon too
[18:26] Nicholas Murdock: Yes,I know of many there.
[18:26] Redgrrl Llewellyn: but is there one pub/bar/club/brothel/library where one might recline?
[18:26] Gilbert Sapwood: well, tell you what... I don't want to organize it, but if someone wants to take it on, you can use my land, and I'll break out the fog....
[18:27] Redgrrl Llewellyn: has a fondness for fog]
[18:28] Marcus Tairov: I love fog.
[18:28] Skusting Dagger: I love fog!
[18:28] Gilbert Sapwood: and I'll find a spot for Ms Llewellyn to recline.
[18:28] Marcus Tairov: Extra pea soup please!
[18:28] Meyru Hilra: *steps up to the task* I , in my black dress, do volunteer to be the Dark Victorian Hostess of Fog and Ennui.
[18:29] Skusting Dagger: I shall bring the dark dollymops
[18:29] Gilbert Sapwood: hmmm... well Frequency Picnic wanted to DJ something. She isn't in DV, but is in SL Lovecraft
[18:29] Redgrrl Llewellyn: Gilbert......[smileslanguidly]...thank you dear
[18:29] Gilbert Sapwood: Meyru, want to organize something?
[18:29] Meyru Hilra: I will.
[18:29] Redgrrl Llewellyn: i do live on a pirate ship....but my fog is lacking in Charleston i NEED more Fog...i have a fever and the only prescription is Fog.

And please to enjoy one of Gil's ghost stories recorded by the dear Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks at the Dakota Theatre...i was there that eve it was standing room only!

Reddylocks: Searching For a Home in Second Life

in this my second winter in Second Life i find i'm looking forward to it more than i thought! ...especially now that i'm living in New Babbage! (and somewhere hidden in Silent's Folly) and i find myself just a bit relfective...upon how i GOT here...
when you first join SL you wander......a lot. there is SO much to see...and so much you don't want to see! so many blingtronic places and advertising malls...FREEBIE islands and people who walk around in outfits they would never wear (hopefully) out in RL and sometimes nekkid with HUGE phaluses jutting forth. earlier when i started this blog i showed how my AVA (avatar) changed...from my ugly first skin and clothes to how i look today....now i wanna talk about the places i've lived and my search for a home and a community that felt....just RIGHT.

last year i went to Deadwood a lot...because it snowed a LOT there....i hadn't really learned how to edit clothes well back then (and still not so great!)..and my boobs always pushed out of my Prim & Proper cape...(gosh i miss that store!) Deadwood was nice but i seldom saw anyone there... ideally, i was searching for a Victorian sim and hopefully an RP sim...and i couldn't find one...the search feature for places really doesn't help sometimes....i also went to Avilion a few times...even bought several medieval gowns just for the purpose (and yes, having been in the SCA..on and off...since i was 17 it was a given)...but though the place was just *gorgeous* it was so laggy i couldn't move and crashed every other min...whilst there, i was hit on by a dwarf...and a dragon....the dwarf was hotter...i like stocky. [grins]

anyway..the first home i had..after than logging in and out in a deserted tower on the West of Ireland...see the tower in the distance on the left? yeah...there....lovely~

was the island home had sunk when i lost

(got rid of) my first husband...[grins]....see the oasis on the left? loved that oasis!

[snarfs] i sunk the linden torch into the water...i thought it looked cool...i still do! did you know that thing is a LOT of prims!?? at the time i didn't know any better...i also didn't know really how to edit and move things...i remember taking a screen shot of the outside landscaping and photoshop where i wanted to move things...and emailed it to my partner asking him to make the changes....he did...[grins]...it was sure purty.

after that, i lived in a skybox which i decorated for the holidays...a whopping $600L a week!

my lovely Christmas tree...in my skybox...and me looking tarty in my Crushed Velvet Santa's Helper costume...[grins ruefully] don't laugh! i still have that in my inventory and i may just wear it again! so there! ROFLMAO eeep! by now i learned how to move things...like snowmen.

and pink flamingos

after that, i lived in tropical skybox...with a pool on the roof!

i added the trees from my Linden inventory...and i bought tiki torches!

...i don't need much in an SL home..much like my RL home..

i need a fireplace, water..either pool, tub or fountain, and a place to sit down. i'm indolent.

this was a bargain...$350L a week with 40 prims!

after the tropical skybox i found my ship...the Queen Anne's Revenge...

it started at $250 a week with only 50 prims. i soon needed MUCH more! the ship requires much more...to furnish every cabin, and every deck...
and i still miss it...what an amazing build..see previous posts for more..pics and movies about it...it's still available for rent if someone wants to live on an expensive huge (888 prims) pirate ship without having to buy a whole sim to put it in...it's $1500 a week with a whopping 423 prims to play with...it also features a hidden underwater grotto ballroom beneath the ship...i had dancing balls down there and also some furniture...it was a great hidden place to change clothes!

i can't wait to decorate for winter in New Babbage and see what our dear Mayor Shaunathan has in store as far as snow and ice....i have a steampunk snow maker! and i'm hoping that's allowed... and i'm searching the grid for sledding hills and ice skating ponds! such fun!
