a Talented & Kind Visitor

as you may have gathered, gentle reader...my ship is open to the public for self tours...i have a notecard giver that provides historic links and info about the real Queen Anne's Revenge...sometimes people tip me (that's always a happy surprise!) and sometimes they give me hostess gifts....one such is above....
a gorgeous shot of my ship....how thoughtful and kind!
the visitor was kaffe Nightfire
[06:56] kafe Nightfire: Hi - I just dropped you a picture I did. Somebody told me this was your ship, so I thought you might like one.
[06:57] kafe Nightfire: Just sent a second copy, with full perms

Mr. Nightfire, according to his profile, is a traveler...so am i!...and a former resident of Silent's Folly...Hmmm Nightfire...wonder if it's an ALT? Eep!
i met this girl once who told me she had 20+ ALTS and i was astounded! how do you discover ALTS? really.... does everyone have an ALT? how do they keep up with one? maybe i'm indolent, but i guess i don't know *how* one would run a successful ALT nor do i have the patience or time with even one it seems! ...as Popeye said, "i yam what i yam"

ANYway...back to dear kafe
i adore the picture he shows in his Picks of Wando/Silent's Folly....and i should warn him i may just nab it, pay $10L and upload it for my profile pic, too! it would be an homage!

i'm so fortunate for the kind visitors to my ship... i just don't like it when they play with my scripted furniture......that's just tacky! i always feel like Reddylocks..."someone's been sleeping in my bed!" and they didn't make it before they left! i also don't like being walked in on when changing...Ahem! enough about that!
now... the dance balls are out for guests to use...even below the ship in the Mer grotto there is a Mer dance for visitors and parties! enjoy!

CLERKS: "I don't apprecicate your RUSE"

i find it very hard to decide what is the best clip from one of my favourite movies CLERKS...but this is definately one of them.

This clip combines the annoying customer who tries to trick Randall who atempts to stay out of other people's affairs...and the ruse...her "cunning attempt to trick" randall with the egg customer...a guidance counselor...classic. other favourite? happy scrappy hero pup, of course! I love ALL of Kevin Smith's movies...(with only 1 exception, Jersey Girl) all of them on DVD and 4 of them autographed by him (yes, i'm a geek and i go to View Askew!)....and i can't wait until i can see (NSFW!) Zack and Miri Make a Porno. and don't even get me started on I'm F-ing Seth Rogan! OMG! Too Funny! LOL

NEW! REVISED: XTC & The Queen Anne's Revenge iMovie

UPDATED! Why? See Below

i was a wee bit unhappy with the picture transitions of the last video..it felt choppy
...so i added fading transitions from one picture to the next
AND after Adam and the Ants classic "Jolly Roger" was over
i added one of my favourite Quayside songs ever "All You Pretty Girls"

from my favourite band in the WORLD ....XTC...the BAND not the drug!

as in Andy Partridge and the [dwindling] boys from Swindon Town.
This song, All You Pretty Girls comes from the album The Bix Express

...excellent! Enjoy~!!

The Queen Anne's Revenge & XTC

a collection of screen shots of my beloved ship The Queen Anne's Revenge

also...i love having visitors on my ship! from the Babbage ning:

miss lubezki puts on pirate clothes and wanders off to find Red´s marvellous ship, bombinating xtc´s pretty girls and thinking of 1884, when she was ... young

i wonder if we'll ever decide the age old There Might Be Giant's question of XTC vs. Adam Ant!!??

New Babbage Welcome Box & Beginner SL Help

Since i have a few friends who after reading this blog & talking to me, now want to see this wondrous place of New Babbage, Caledon, Silent's Folly and Second Life...
here's a helpful box of FREE items that can be found in New Babbage Square!
Found Here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Babbage%20Square/86/255/107

(pray note, kind reader: the SLURL won't work if you don't belong already to Second Life)

What is Second Life?
somehow you stumbled across my blog somehow or want to know more....the BEST visual representation of the beauty of Second Life made by Oolon Sputnik
(might as well get used to the funky names of SL...really....now! LOL)

No One Likes Being a Newbie!

It just feels icky~ you feel stoopid, you don't want to stick out and you want to be in the know (fast!) and cool!....and SL does take a committment of wandering to work...so IMHO
the most impt. thing to get used to SL is to just on your own at your own speed...spend time wandering in SL after going through orientation island...as you wander you learn! find free skin...free clothes... walk, look, learn, explore and discover...get comfortable! it doesn't happen in one visit....or two...but once it "clicks" for you i think you will love it! i paid for most everything i have...i have a few free things...but i set up my paypal right away and bought linden dollars so i could go shopping!

To help you get started in SL...i couldn't begin to list here all the sites out there to help the new traveler to the in-world lands... but here are a few suggestions:
"You can learn Second Life in a fun and fast fashion! The enthusiastic Torley is your host, taking you on a tour through tips, tricks, and techniques that'll increase your confidence and make you smile. :) Whether you're a newcomer or longtime Resident, your inworld experience will benefit from these video tutorials."SL Bloggers
i'm not an official one (yet) but there are MANY who are~ and i've learned SO much from them!
check out the Ning started by Zoe Connolly called Second Life Bloggers.... not to join (yet!) but to find the links to those that are blogging on topics that are important to you. maybe if i keep up this blog (yeah, see how many posts i did since it was started 2 years ago!) eep~ i'll join SL bloggers until then...here are a few....of a gagillion!
as i said, i could go on and on and on..... an advanced google search with terms like "second life" and your interests or queries will narrow your search....but each AVA must learn on their own first then have people in-world who are "mentors" and happy to answer silly questions.
i am one of those people...

Exploring New Babbage

Under the Vernian Sea
(pray, click on any image in this blog to see the full size)

you know...i was asked by a friend why i am so intrigued with Second Life...when i have a very happy full social RL going...but for me...i'm viscerally drawn to the visual imagery in SL
(i may have mentioned this before! LOL) that's also why i wander, explore, seek, imagine, and marvel at the wonders that have been wrought in pixels and prims...as i explore..i HAVE to take pictures! and of course as Vain as i am i have to BE IN most of them! LOL

such a beautiful room....wonders what it's used for....sits and takes a break from Exporing

jumping for joy for being in New Babbage...i love interactive builds! you step on them...
and then find yourself jumping for joy! it's fun!

the mechanics of this build are mesmerizing

i always need to wet my whistle after exploring!

I Just Bought an Airship!

The Steampunk Dreamliner v.2!

i am so excited!!! [bounces up and down] ain't it purty!???
...i fell in love with this ship since a friend of mine rented it in Silent's Folly...
i just HAD to have it! it has SO many lush features and rich textures...i don't know if i'll ever figure out how to navigate it but it would be a great second home in New Babbage if i could get airspace!

Mary Sues in SL..."Yay, Go Me!"

i was a the pub with two of my most beloved gorgeous/ smart/amazingly erudite/and perceptive english teacher friends earlier this eve...and we were all brainstorming and talking about fan fiction...how to use it as a force of good with her advanced HS English students...using Blogs, Ning's and Wiki's Ohmy! and how the kids could choose a character and write either a journal (like the Very Secret Diaries of LotR! Hint: read Legolas first!)...on a wiki as that character...or create a Ning page with each student having a Ning page as the character and then they would write back and forth IC and come up with alternate events, etc... that they would expand upon (still hashing this out..as a librarian and a ed tech specailist i see the potential for this as well as for collaborative writing using my Wiki's...any suggestions made as comments are VERY welcome!)

.....anyway, the topic of Mary Sues came up and A.G taught us all about what and who she is!... don't know what a Mary Sue is?...
watch my dear....

and it occurred to me now that there are and always HAVE been Mary Sues in RP!...whether in SL or in Mudd's or internet based chat role play (WBS-Inn of the Weary Traveler and Glenshadows pub..think of text-based live chat multiplayer D&D with out the 20 sided die) ...something i did 15 years ago! and i remember i had an IMP or ALT character i would bring out when i came across a Mary Sue when bored or irritated by the vapidity around me for SATIRE....Called Princess Lily Lambdragon -- i've gotta find that RTF/Simple Text file!!! i know it's somewhere on a external HD...i'll find it and post it later! (that name didn't exist for me back then though the concept originated in 1974! with a Star Trek FF parody) and there is a homo-erotic twist to it that somehow seems to come out in FF. Starting of course with Kirk/Spock

and ending with Harry/Ron as seen here in a HILARIOUS clip from the Soup!

MarySues happen a LOT in HPFF! (Harry Potter Fan Fiction)

Mary Sues in SL?
there are too many Faerie/Princess/Fighter/TimeLord/Mermaid (eep!)/Baby Ancient Dragons/Unicorns with Big blue eyes and long blonde sparkly gorgeous thick curly tresses... around to not see the correlation. the very nature of our AVA's ....SCREAM...Mary Sue!
all of our female AVA's are at least 6'2 and the men are 7 foot easy! and how many pudgy or old AVA's have you seen in-world? i saw one once at Fibber McGee's with a walker and nearly fell off my couch for laughing and LOVING him!!! because the lure of perfection is too, too, seductive!

and yes, Clarice..i am "strong enough to point that high-powered perception at" myself....and see that WOW...i'm a bit Mary Sue! i mean..(quoting from my Ning profile) "Captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge a RELIC ship docked in Silent's Folly Wando...Privateer, Explorer, Librarian, Mermaid, and a member of the Independent State of Caledon, New Babbage, New Toulouse, Opus Free Port, Silent's Folly, and Winterfell."

AND Little Red Riding Hood!
EEp!!....Well, at least i don't have a unicorn!

and yes...i'm starting to agree with my adorable panhellenic brilliant/adorable/gorgeous/ learned young friend (A.G.) and think Bella in Twilight is a Mary Sue!

Gosh Darn! ....well, at least she's clumsy!

Yes, I am a Pirate RL, too

i've had questions why i am so very obsessed with my ship the Queen Anne's Revenge...(and yes, it's gone beyond just fondness!) i do RL historic re-enactment of 1710 Queen Anne's War Privateers! we go to multi-timed and pirate events where we talk to the public the history of Privateers and Piracy of the times... we even have little wooden cutlasses that we teach the kids or public to use..(it's fun!)...

at the Jamestown VA event we even had a sailor on the docks mending sails!

my ex-bf (also a re-enactor) and still good friend converted to being a pirate for me if i did his time period...iron-age celt....i might blog about that some other time! LOL

at the Hampton VA. Blackbard Festival...having fun with Ben Cherry one of the BEST and most famous Blackbeard re-enactors in the US! he's both a scholar and a re-enactor! my Privateer re-enactment group was hired by the organizers to set up a working camp and to talk to the tourists about Privateer/Pirate life....

and they even let us play with our black powder and shoot our cannon!!

we also have annual Pirate Feasts where we take over an old mill and feast, dance, sing, and have some crazy times... of course i'm a serving wench at the pub we set up... and my fellow pirates "tip" me with replica coin, rings, pearls, gold nuggets, and anything but modern money! it's a lovely decadent shamelessly ribald time...!!

ARrrrr, Matey! So, next time you're on the Queen Anne's Revenge you'll know why i just look upon every inch and every prim of it with loving covetous eyes...if only i could live on an RL Pirate Ship i would be SOooooo happy! Cheers, Darlings!

Privateer Capt. & Pirate Wench

who loves, LOVES comments!

This Librarian is Inked! ....temporarily, that is!

i could not help myself....i saw these on Arche McPhee and had to get them for myself and my fellow librarians! and at a recent national conference of us i wore them proudly...earning everything from thrilled murmured compliements (which i ADORED!) to stricken eyes and censorious gazes! (which i loved even more!!) for a former punk retro burlesque styled librarian these were just too delicious to ignore!
for those of you with a similar literary and fearless bent may i suggest:

what you may not be able to see: Born to Read, Alas, Poor Yorick, Overdue! (with skull) Literate for Life, Read or Die or my fav, Book Lust!
btw, did you like the corset? really thinking of getting one of these done on me PERMANENT.. yet there still lingers the proper lady who does not want to mar my flesh save for what is needed for earbobs...

Confessions of an SL Shoppaholic

(Wardrobe Trunk gown with parasol and Grim Bros backpack)

i LOVE shopping more in SL than i do RL....in RL i'm a go in, get it, and get out kinda gal... i adore keeping up on all the new styles but i also don't stray far from my funky classics... as a former hardcore punk rock chick i've never strayed far from wearing lots of black...but now i mix it with grey, wine, and green cashmere and of course always pearls! add to that fishnet stockings, catseye sunglasses and mary jane platforms. think of a retro 50's burlesque punk rock librarian. (who also has 10+ coach bags...eep!)

but shopping in SL is Soooo different! i LOVES it! esp. since i've gone Victorian/Caledonian/Steampunk full time. i used to shop at Touch of Ireland (West of Ireland) and i still love that store for richly textured costumes! but shopping for Victorian & Steampunk fashions have added a new thrill to it! especially since i don't have to hand sew the garb! (i'm NOT going to talk about my SCA and historic re-enactment garb making or costuming struggles of th past! LOL)....but in SL...Ahhh all the bustle and the boning and none of the hand setting! delish!
i gave a shopping tips card out in-world a while back....here are the highlights... just in case you missed it! Miss Eleanor's alerts are also very very inspiring...and some cause trouble...like shopping for christmas you MEAN to only get the freebies but sometimes you see something else...and they got you!

So here are my scoops..Favourite Shops and FREE stuff!

Wardrobe Trunk
My Favourite Store: and yes...i have bought EVERY gown and ensemble in it! and yes, i am a bit ashamed....[grins]...but it's good being a rich widow! it's a small but addictive store that has amazing gowns that come with SO MANY pieces! hats, shoes, stockings, parasols, glasses, lorngettes, traveling suitcases that open (bottom right of the second photo!) and other fun accessories! and i've bought every one! go there now...and enjoy! and if we ever show up in the same gown it'll be a hoot! or, if it bothers you we can always change! Oh! and i've sent sweet but begging notes and IM's to the talented designer asking her to make more....but to no avail!

the only problem with the LM is that it drops you around the corner from the shop....you have to walk around a big building and look for the Old Theatre bldg and all the dress displays are on the Mezz level...no TP just fly up......whew! worth the trek....
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Wardrobe%20Trunk/93/65/40

Grim Brothers - Steampunk Wasteland and Victorian Emporium
My other Favourite shop is Grim Bros - Clematis Island
and embarasingly enough...i also own almost ever gown they sell...[blushes]...hey, i don't do crack(it's whack!) ....this is my drug of choice! and it's not hard to do when most of the gowns are less than $300 each...and a LOT of them include stockings, hats and extra pieces!!!
Miss Montez ensemble has almost 20 pieces and is only $199!!! it has a corset, a lace textured blouse, a high standing collar...AND this lovely sheer black tophat!!! and let's not talk about the backpacks/novelty tophats there...SO fun!!

NONNA HEDGES!!!
i have such a girl crush on Nonna Hedges...she's a passing friend even...and i try not to implore her to create new victorian gowns....i would chain her to a laptop and spoon feed her if could so much i love her hats and lace gowns!.....So when i discovered several FREE gowns on the 2nd floor of the store...(i couldn't find the stairs and flew up!) i was SOoooo excited!!
NOTE: they're not all marked FREE so you have to mouse over and see that they are priced at $0L! i esp. liked Red silk velvet mermaid free dress PICASSO mermaid (pictured!) there's also a Picasso Red and Black Plaid suit!
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Picasso/98/22/23

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bonny%20Cove/195/110/24

FREE Pirate GARB....

http://slurl.com/secondlife/FairChang%20Calypso%20SW/229/178/24

FREE Lassitude & Ennui Signature Summer (or Roman!) Sandals.
..in 3 colours and 3 metals!
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nouveau/56/69/31

FREE Fairy Wings, Lingerie and Skin
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Wildewood/174/156/608

just a note: i LOVE her fairy dresses...have like 10...but watch out some of them contain skin and shapes...like the Olde Worlde Fairy....(my FAV!) has that in the folder...went to Add to Outfit evrything and ended up not looking like ME! and i HATE that.....Eeep! i'm very skin monogamous...even bought makup in my skin (Red's skin is sans makeup)...but i rarely wear it because i don't think it looks like "me" or Red...or...nevermind! Enjoy the tips! .....
